I went to the temple yesterday with my friend Matt for his Army buddys' sealing ceremony. I sat in the waiting area and then afterward we walked around temple square. I love love love the temple, pretty much all of them, but I captured this beautiful picture of the Salt Lake Temple with my cellular device. We then went down to Spanish Fork for the wedding reception and to see one of his greatest buddies. I had a great time yesterday, very spiritual because we spent most of the day listening to only church music.
On our ride home from the Spanish Fork, we passed probably about 5 or more temples. Nothing takes my breath away like seeing the Salt Lake temple all lit up in the middle of downtown Salt Lake. To think that was once the tallest structure in Salt Lake City. What a beautiful sight it must have been in the middle of the valley after it was complete and nothing around but faithful people and there weren't any structures bigger. Now as you pass it at night, there are thousands of lights and about 20 buildings that far surpass the temple in height. But nothing can surpass the presence it posesses. As we passed I couldn't help but think of a line from a song by Greg Simpson, an LDS artist. It's a lyric from the song called The Watchman. "A constant in the chaos that's been there all along, or the peace within the payoff that beckon's to be strong"....The temple reminded me of that because it's surrounded by taller buildings, flashy lights, or as I refer to such as "chaos". It's constant, it beckons for us to be strong, and gives us peace within. It's constantly there and at times you may not see it or have a hard time finding it, but it's ALWAYS there, smack dab in the middle of the "chaos". It's there for you to find. As you stare at it, you receive the most peaceful feeling. It stands strong and firm in the middle of storms, it has weathered a tornado and you can see the wounds. How well is that applied to our lives? For me it's a great analogy. Our bodies are temples. Within us lies the "light of Christ". You can find it. You can go there and find love and understanding, forgiveness and comfort. It truly is the happiest place on earth. I love having wonderful days such as this!
